sorry for the late reply brena i kow people been wondering how hes getting on. the vet was very pleased with the xray, all looked normal and there is evidence of new bone forming around where the leg was broken. all very encouraging. however the xrays need to be sent to the specialist in northampton so we might not hear anything conclusive for up to a week. i did see though, for the first time, xrays of his leg with the plate and pin and screws inserted. there are about 3 screws above the break near martins pelvis and maybe 4 or 5 pins below the break near the knee. the pin as you can imagine is nothing more than a metal rod. maybe 7 or 8 inches long and the plate itself is more like a skelton frame, metal with lots of holes punched through it rather than a sheet of metal. poor little git. seeing the pic reminded me a lot of what hes been through but he really looking ok now and, even though we are waiting for the specialist, jayne and are are very confident, and relieved. only one semi-remarkable thing to report. the vet asked us what we wanted to do about removing all the metal once the bone had healed properly. i nearly fell over. i told him no. there is no way they are cutting martin open again only to do an op that is going to make his leg weaker. the metal stays. it not amazingly pleasant but id never forgive myself if we had that op and his leg broke again at a later date.

I heard back from the specialist today about Martin cats xrays. He was very pleased and agreed with out vet that the bone had started to heal very well. Martin doesn't have to stay in his cage anymore which is a relief for all humans who will no longer get an ear bashing lol lol. ;D We have to take him for one more xray at the beginning of May by which time the bone should be fully healed and case closed YAAAAY. thanks again for you concern everybody, Martin is blinking and flicking his ears at you.

Rob, I'm so pleased for you and Martin. I remember the 'ear bashing' we got from Buddie when he was cage-rested for 8 weeks. Definitely not an experience either of us wants to repeat.
What did the specialist say about removing the metal part or not. Could there be a danger of the pins moving and causing a problem in the future? I know Desley's Cat Pebbles (someone I know) had to have her leg removed because the pins did eventually slip/move and perforate something. I can't remember exactly, as it was a while ago.
Keep us posted.

Thanks again everybody. The vet said the pins should stay in place ok now that they are fixed properly. im not entirely sure why he suggested that we might want to remove them. Even the the bone will heal well I can't see it ever being as strong as it was and I cannot think of a single good reason to have his leg opened up again.
