Wasn't sure where to put this thread as it covers all pets. When your pets have died, have you buried them or had them cremated? We've always buried, not for any religious reason but mainly because the children (and me ) wanted a 'service' (which usually consists of burial with toys and one of them saying a prayer). So we've buried a dog, gerbils, goldfish, a wild bird and even a stick insect!!! With my dog (Ben who died three years ago) I just couldn't bear to leave him at the vets so my husband dug a five foot grave in our garden for him (I think the neighbours thought he was burying me!!! LOL) and it's nice that we could plant bulbs to come up each Spring. It's all down to personal choice but I was just interested in what you do?

I also buried my cat Melkior. Near the kindergarden. Few years after I buried him there, they built the biggest and fanciest children's playground near his grave (which was under the tree). We don't have a choice really, because there is no other option. (YET) We don't even have pet cemetery in the town. Only humans can get cremated. If you leave your pet at vet's he/she will end up with all the other animal waste in some incinerator or cremation furnace (or whatever). You may NOT claim the ashes of your pet. So, the best thing to do is to bury your pet by yourself on some special place.

Both Paddington and Momo were buried. Paddy in the fields behind the bungalow we rented in Sunningdale. Nobody will hopefully ever disturb his peace there, as it is part of the green-belt and there will be no new buildings. Momski was buried in our garden and I have planted spring bulbs and put a little stone cat sculpture on this spot. I guess that was a little short-sighted of us as we will definitely be moving again some time in the future. Not sure what the people who will own our house after us will make of it, if they ever dig in the garden.

Fortunately for me I have never been in the position to have to decide but I would think burial would be my preference for the animals if the time did come. Keep them close and have a little marker on the ground. Yes. Nice for remembrance

We always bury them...and living in the country we have a special area just for them.

I prefer to bury my pets so they are close to me, if that makes sense?

I've only had to make this decision once, he was my soul mate kitty and I opted for a private cremation. His ashes sit in an urn shaped like a cat sleeping, on a dresser in my bedroom. Always with me. Boy do I miss him.
